I’ve been with Dow Corning for nearly five years, the last two of which I’ve spent as a Team Leader. I manage six customer service professionals in all, coaching them in the use of SAP, mentoring them and assisting them with their career development. I also help the Customer Service Centre to achieve its objectives, whether they’re global, European or individual.
It’s very much a target-driven role, which is one of the things I love about it. Before joining Dow Corning I was working in a similar type of position within an FMCG environment; but here I’ve enjoyed a lot more variety and responsibility - every day is a different challenge. People Management and training others was always an area I wanted to get into. Now I’m actually doing it! That’s typical of Dow Corning: if you can demonstrate the drive and enthusiasm, they’ll do their best to help you realise your ambitions.
Would I recommend a career at Dow Corning? Most definitely. The support network here is great, the training is first class and the opportunities are always there should you want to progress, as I’ve done. They really look after you too. For instance, if you have financial worries or any other personal problems you can call the Employee Assistance hotline for confidential advice. Just as importantly, the working day here ends at 5.30pm, which means you’re able to enjoy a life outside of work. Now how many people in a job like mine can say that.
